In Gratitude to Bishop Jiho Machida

We regret to announce that our former Bishop, Reverend Jiho Machida passed away on March 5.

Bishop Machida served many years at Soto Mission of Hawaii supporting its community.

He was especially well educated and helped translate many teachings, books, and tradition from Japanese style to Hawaii(an) style that we practice today and without his understanding and contribution, Soto Mission in Hawaii would not have been able to adapt to the local community as it serves today.

We would like to take this moment to express our gratitude to Bishop Jiho Machida for the many years he served the community of Hawaii in sharing the Dharma and Wisdom.

From the bottom of our hearts, Bishop Shugen Komagata, Board of Directors, temple ministers and staff, and members and supporters of Soto Mission of Hawaii, express our deepest condolences to Mrs. Violet Machida and the family.

Bishop Machida’s funeral service will be open to public and will take place at Soto Mission of Hawaii on May 7, 2023 at 3 PM (HST)
